Building trust with your patients is like discovering a pot of gold—it brightens their visit and boosts your practice. Check out these helpful resources for March. In this month's Dawson Digest: Why did I say that? It's not what I meant! The implication mindset of patient communication That's not what I meant. 🤐 Oops! Have you ever finished talking with a patient and wished you could take back everything you said, replacing the words with something that sounded better? We've all been there. But it really boils down to this: How prepared am I to answer questions whenever they are asked, no matter who asks them or where they are asked?   Some tips for those unexpected questions: Validate the question's importance before answering. Acknowledge patient's concern. Repeat the question for clarity. Be prepared to know how to answer. Patient's still giving you the run around? Patients often raise objections disguised as trivial questions or put-offs, like needing to arrange childcare or consult with their partner. The best response is to acknowledge their concern and offer a solution, such as scheduling an appointment with enough time for arrangements.  For genuine concerns, agreeing with the patient and offering solutions tailored to their situation can effectively address their worries and build trust. Being prepared to handle these common types of questions ensures smooth communication and patient satisfaction.   Read full article here. There might be some implications... 😅 When you find concerns in a new patient exam, are speaking to your patient in terms of 'is this urgent?'   Urgent vs. Optional. When we're discussing dental concerns with patients, we often categorize them as either urgent or optional. Urgent issues include infection, pain, swelling, or anything requiring immediate attention. On the other hand, optional treatments, such as teeth whitening, are entirely up to the patient's preference and don't necessarily affect their dental health. It's all about explaining these concepts in terms that patients can easily grasp and make decisions about their care.   "Can I defer treatment?" When chatting with patients, it's crucial to highlight potential issues they may not be aware of, like severe wear or aging dental work. By presenting the option of doing nothing and exploring the consequences, patients can better understand the importance of addressing these concerns. For instance, showing photos of cracks in older fillings helps illustrate the potential risks, steering the conversation away from technical jargon towards practical implications for their oral health.   You can see the future. 🔮 (kind of) At the end of the day, adopting the implication mindset transforms you to a trusted advisor in the eyes of your patients. They see you as their counselor and health advocate, someone genuinely looking out for their best interests. Embracing the implication mindset can strengthen trust and rapport within your practice, ultimately benefiting both patients and dentists alike.   View full article here.
